What’s so significant about a Certified Arborist? While the term, arborist, refers to any tree professional, a Certified Arborist is a step above. They are individuals who basically have an “PhD” in tree science and care. In order to be certified, individuals are required to possess a degree in the field of arboriculture, horticulture, landscape architecture, or forestry, and/or have worked a certain number of years in arboriculture. They must also pass an extensive examination and are required to adhere to a Code of Ethics that strengthens their integrity and reliability in the industry.

WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN HIRING AN ARBORIST

CERTIFICATION

Are they Certified Arborists? Anyone with the right tools and simply know-how can perform tree work, but a Certified Arborist has proven to have the knowledge it takes to properly care for your trees and shrubs. They know more than simply how to trim and remove a tree, they have a thorough understanding of the biology and science involved with tree care.

LICENSE + INSURANCE

There are too many tree care companies that are not licensed and insured! This means that if anything goes wrong and major property damage or bodily injury is incurred, you, as the property owner may be held responsible! Hiring an uninsured tree trimmer could even cost you your home.

AFFILIATIONS

Do they have any professional affiliations in organizations such as the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) or the Society of Commercial Arboriculture (SCA)? Being a member to an organization shows a desire to stay up-to-date of the latest techniques and information.

CREDENTIALS + REVIEWS

If you obtained more than one estimate for your tree job, it is not always the best decision to simply hire the cheapest tree professional. You should check the credentials and reviews of a company before hiring them to perform dangerous work on your property.
